This past summer my family took a cruise up the New England coast. We stopped in Portland, ME, Bar Harbor, ME, St John, NB, and Halifax, NS. Because we were in prime oyster territory, I ventured to find oysters on each stop the boat made. I didn’t bring a oyster knife with me (at of a oversight), so I had to not only find oysters, but a knife too. Luckily we came across the Harbor Fish Market on our first top in Portland, ME. Not only did this place have a knife (one type) but a great selection of over a dozen oyster types to purchase. The specific knife I picked up was a “Morty the Knife Man 519” which is a New Haven Style knife (bent tip), 3 inches in length and about $10. Over the months since the trip, this has been one of my favorite knives due to the thin blade end (some oysters have a very small gape between the cup and lid), relatively broad blade and ground to a nice end point, and nearly indestructible handle. The end of the handle could have been rounded more for comfort based on how I hold a oyster knife when I shuck (I have a Dexter Russel with a nice round end) . Overall this is a great knife for the value and it has not met a oyster it could not shuck.
